Upon completing the sculpture of Chennigaraya, preparations were underway for its consecration and installation in the temple. However, Jakkanacharya's son, Dankana, arrived and expressed his objection, deeming the idol unsuitable for worship. In a determined response, Jakkanacharya challenged his son, vowing to cut off his right hand if the sculpture was indeed flawed.

A test was conducted by applying sandal paste all over the Chennigaraya idol, but the area near the belly remained inexplicably wet. Upon investigation, a surprising discovery was made—a frog emerged from that section. Realizing the defeat, Jakkanacharya fulfilled his oath and cut off his right hand.

As a result of this event, the temple became popularly known as Kappe Chennigaraya Temple, signifying the association with the frog. However, it's important to note that worship is not offered to the deity in this temple.
